Psalm 87-The city of God

Truth for Truckers” *April 27, 2014* Psalm 87 “The city of God

“Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God. Selah.”(v.3) The city of God, AKA Jerusalem is a splendid city even though it is the place of much present-day strife between the Palestinians and Israel. The Lord gave me the opportunity to spend over a week there in 2012 on a ministry trip.

Much of the day time hours were spent in Tel Aviv ministering to refugees from seven different African nations, but the Lord gave me plenty of time to visit the Old City, the Temple Mount area, the Garden of Gethsemane, the Mount of Olives and the Garden Tomb where we held a powerful service to the Lord. Preaching, praising and praying in the place where the Lord Jesus Christ arose from the dead was quite an unforgettable experience.

This Psalm pays homage to Zion [Jerusalem] in the brief seven verses and declares: “The LORD loves the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob.” (v.2) He also calls it “His foundation” which is located in the holy mountains. When you approach Jerusalem from anywhere you are constantly going up to the city. Coming from Tel Aviv we went up for almost a half an hour in the bus we rode in on our way back to Jerusalem. So, it is in the Scripture. You go up to Jerusalem and when leaving you must go down to the other locations in Israel.

We are commanded to “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem”(Psalm 122:6) and one day there will be an eternal peace when the Prince of Peace, the Lord Jesus Christ comes to rule and reign upon the throne of His father David in Jerusalem on the Temple Mount! While peace appears to be an impossibility with all of Israel’s enemies bristling their hair, showing their teeth and threatening to eliminate the nation of Israel. But our God will bring to pass every single one of the prophecies of the Old and New Testament! That is one thing you can count on that will definitely come to pass!
