Psalm 91-The Battle Hymn of the Bible

Truth for Truckers” *May 1, 2014* Psalm 91 “Battle Hymn of the Bible

There are four sections to this the most powerful Psalm for the warrior who is preparing to go to battle for the Lord. This Psalm and the blessed promises it contains has been used for physical and spiritual protection in every conflict, on every battlefield known to mankind. Every believer should be intimately familiar with the warfare promises given in this The Battle Hymn of the Bible.

The first section (v.1-4) opens with a promise of protection to the warrior who “Dwell [abides] in the secret place of the Most High”. “They shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty” Notice the necessity of abiding! “If ye abide in Me and My Words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will and it shall be done unto you.” (John 15:7) Here is the “formula” for answered prayer! Here is the “Shadow of the Almighty”. Remaining connected to the “Vine” under “The Shadow of the Almighty” in Christ is a must!

The last verse of this section is the foundation for John 15:7: “He shall cover thee with His feathers, and under His wings shall thou trust: His Truth shall be thy shield and buckler” (v.4) “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God” (Romans 10:17). It is the abiding Word that supplies trust.

The remaining twelve verses contain some of the most blessed promises to the warrior that the Scripture contains. But, the focus for today, Drivers, is on the first section (v.1-4) and the promise of protection from our Lord Jesus Christ in the time of trouble when the enemy comes in like a flood and attempts to destroy our faith by sending doubts and distress to our mind. It is then that we must put our faith in the Lord Jesus who is the “Shadow of the Almighty” and the promises found in this Psalm!
