“Truth for Truckers” *June 29, 2014* Psalm 149 “The
LORD takes pleasure in His people”
Once again there are over ten
exhortations and commands to rejoice and praise the LORD in this Psalm. The
last “New Song” in the Psalms is recorded in (v.1) “Praise ye the LORD. Sing unto the LORD a new song, and His praise in
the congregation of saints.” This anthem of praise begins with praising and
the singing of a new song unto the LORD “In
the congregation of the saints”. This corporate worship by the saints is
exactly what God desires in the Church!
Notice, there are three positions of the
saints:
1.
In the
congregation they are praising and singing a new song unto the LORD (v.1)
2.
In glory they are
joyful singing aloud upon their beds (v.5)
3.
In battle the
high praises of God are in their mouths, and a two-edged sword in their hand…to
execute judgment upon the heathen and punishments upon the people; To bind
their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron. (v.6-9)
But, the emphasis upon singing, praising, and
rejoicing people of God shows the condition of His people when He takes pleasure in them (v.4) for then they
are the obedient and loving throng of worshippers which supplies them “This honor have all His saints” (v.9).
So, once again, Drivers, let us praise the Lord and sing the New Song unto Him!
