Psalm 90-Teach us to number our days

Truth for Truckers” *April 30, 2014* Psalm 90 “Teach us to number our days
This is the only Psalm written by Moses. A simple outline will help us understand his sequential focus:

  I.The Eternality of God (v.1, 2)
1.LORD, Thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.
2.Before the mountains were brought forth…even from everlasting to everlasting Thou art God

II. The Mortality/Brevity of Man (v.3-11)
    1.Thou turns man to destruction
2.Thou carry man as with a flood
    3. They are as a sleep in the morning
    4. They are like the grass which grows up
    5. In the morning it flourishes and grows up
    6. In the evening it is cut down
    7. For we are consumed by Thy anger, and by Thy wrath are we troubled
    8. Thou has set our iniquities before Thee, our secret sins in the light of Thy countenance
    9. For all our days are passed away in the wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told
  10. The days of our years are three-score and ten; and if by reason of strength they be four-score
  11. Yet is there strength, labor and sorrow for it is soon cut off, and we fly away
  12. Who knows the power of Thine anger? Even according to Thy fear, so is Thy wrath

III. Ten Requests for Revival&Reward (v.12-17)
    1. So, teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom
    2. Return, O LORD, how long?
    3. Let it repent Thee concerning Thy servants
    4. O satisfy us early with Thy mercy
    5. Make us glad according to the days wherein Thou has afflicted us
    6. Let Thy work appear unto Thy servants
    7. Let Thy glory appear unto Thy servants
    8. Let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us
    9. Establish Thou the work of our hands upon us
  10. Yea, the work of our hands establish Thou it

Moses views the enduring eternal life of God and compares it with the short life-span of man and immediately asks God to give us instruction and wisdom in view of the brief time we have here on earth.
Then he asks the LORD to bring revival and reward through His return and mercy giving man gladness,   glory and goodness by giving man His beauty and establishing the work of our hands.

These are weighty Words coming from the most revered man in Scripture next to the Lord Jesus Christ. Pay attention Drivers, we are only here for a short time, but eternal life is freely given to every child of God. But, the eternal rewards we will receive in heaven are based upon our works here on earth!
