“Truth for Truckers” *May 5, 2014* Psalm 95 “Harden
not your heart”
Over one half of this Psalm contains one
of the most powerful anthems of praise in the Word of God. Yes, (v.1-7a) is a
great pattern for our own worship of the Lord our God. But, then, the un-named
Psalmist immediately turns to giving some very valuable instruction and a warning
to the present generation of Believers:
“Today if ye will hear His voice: Harden
not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the
wilderness: When your fathers tempted Me, and saw My work. Forty years long was
I grieved with this generation, and said, It is a people that do err in their
heart, and they have not known My ways: Unto whom I sware in My wrath that they
should not enter into My rest.” (v.7b-11)
Three important things about this
generation:
1.
They saw the
WORKS of God
2.
They did not know
His WAYS
3.
They experienced
His WRATH
The entire generation died in the
wilderness even though they saw the miraculous WORKS of God during their time
in Egypt when He brought His miraculous Ten Plagues upon Pharaoh and the nation
of Egypt. They saw the WORKS of God when He miraculously delivered by the blood
on the doorposts. Then, He miraculously fed them and appeared to them at Mt.
Sinai and miraculously gave them the Law.
That generation in a matter of months saw all of these supernatural WORKS of
God repeatedly yet they rebelled and were sentenced to death in the wilderness
because their hearts were hardened and they experienced the abnormal WRATH of
God. Normally, God’s desire is to bless His faithful people!
So, Drivers, how does this apply to us
today. Every one of us can get a hard heart to the things of God. Have you been
in the Word today? Have you praised and prayed and spent time talking to the
Lord? When is the last time you witnessed of your salvation to someone that is
lost? Maybe your heart is hardened! If
so, full and complete confession of your sin brings back sweet fellowship by
the cleansing power of the Blood of Jesus! Read I John 1:7-9 and praise the
Lord for His great mercy to us!
