“Truth for Truckers” *May 24, 2014* Psalm 114 “The
Song of the Exodus”
God is spoken of as leading His people
along from their bondage in Egypt to Canaan. His great power and majesty is
recorded here in a perfect example of Hebrew poetry. This Psalm is not
divisible. It is one unit using all of creation as animated figures to paint a
picture of the Lord’s ability and actions of taking His people to the Promised
Land. This animating of inanimate objects such as the sea, the Jordan river,
the mountains, the little hills and eventually the entire earth is seen
trembling at the presence of the God of Jacob (v.7).
His miracle of turning the rock into a
standing water (v.8) which He did during the wilderness wanderings of the
people of Israel is the capstone of this short but powerful song. Once again,
this brief but historic record should bring us to praising our God because of
His great majesty and power.
