“Truth for Truckers” *May 9, 2014* Psalm 99 “Exalt
ye the LORD…for He is holy”
Three Psalms begin with this declaration: “The LORD reigns”, Psalm 93, 97 and
Psalm 99. This fact, that God is sovereign, that He rules in the events of the
universe should give us peace in our hearts simply by knowing this one fact.
This is what Paul understood when he wrote: “All
things work together for good to them
that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28).
Although
this initial declaration is given in the first phrase, the theme of the Psalm
is the holiness of God. This simple outline will help us to understand the
Psalmist’s focus:
I.The
Effect of God’s Holiness on the People (v.1-3)
II.The
Effect of God’s Holiness on the King (v.4, 5)
III.The
Effect of God’s Holiness on the Pastor, Priest and Prophet (v.6-9)
The bottom line for us, Drivers, is given
in three verses: “Let them praise Thy
great and terrible name; for it is holy…“Exalt ye the LORD our God, and worship
at His footstool; for He is holy…Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at His
holy hill; for the LORD our God is holy.” (v.3, 5, 9). We, the people of
God must be a people who spontaneously praise and exalt the name of our God for
He is holy!
