“Truth for Truckers” *May 8, 2014* Psalm 98 “The
LORD is coming to judge the earth”
The coming of the Lord to judge the earth
and its inhabitants is the most prophesied event in the Scripture, and here at
the end of this Psalm it is the focus of the Psalm’s conclusion: “For He comes to judge the earth; with
righteousness shall He judge the world, and the people with equity.” (v.9)
Notice, He will judge with righteousness
which is emphasized in the book of the Revelation 16:5 “And I heard another of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord,
which are, and was, and shall be, because Thou has judged thus.” This
declaration is recorded in the midst of the last series of plagues, the seven
vials, which are being poured out upon the beast and the earth.
But, before He judges the earth He will
show His salvation: “The LORD has made
known His salvation; His righteousness has He openly showed in the sight of the
heathen. He has remembered His mercy and His truth toward the house of Israel:
all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.” (v.2, 3).
The book of the Revelation also tells of the
worldwide preaching of the Gospel before He judges:
“And I saw another angel fly in the
midst of heaven, having the everlasting Gospel to preach unto them that dwell
on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, Saying
with a loud voice, fear God, and give glory to Him; for the hour of His
judgment is come: and worship Him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and
the fountains of waters.”(Revelation 14:6, 7)
The Lord Jesus Christ refers to this same
preaching of the Gospel before judgment: “And
this Gospel of the Kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness
unto all nations; and then shall the end come.” (Matthew 24:14) “The end”
is the Day of the Lord” which is chronicles in Revelation 8-19.The Psalmist is
also an accurate prophet in this instance telling of events yet future which we
can rejoice in the goodness of God for His great love for sinners is demonstrated
here! Drivers, this should give us compassion for the lost and cause us to
witness to those the Lord sends our way every day!
