“Truth for
Truckers” *May 2, 2014* Psalm 92 “The
righteous shall flourish like the palm tree”
Three things recorded in this Psalm show that in the end “The righteous shall flourish like the palm
tree” which is the fitting summary statement of all that is spoken of from
(v.1-15). However, we, the righteous must practice and know the two elements
that precede this summary statement which pronounces the blessing of the
Believer.
First of all, we must practice daily devotion to the Lord: “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the
LORD, and to sing praises unto Thy name, O Most High: To show forth Thy
loving-kindness in the morning and Thy faithfulness every night.”(v.1,
2) Notice, the daily emphasis recorded in these two verses. Thanksgiving, praise
and showing the loving-kindness/mercy of God must be evident as we start the
day. Then, in the night praising Him for His faithfulness to us by mentioning
the day’s events that have just passed is the daily pattern we should practice
for the blessing of God.
Secondly, in (v.6-9) the recognition of the enemies of God is the focus.
Even when we practice daily devotion to the systematic blessing of God we must
be fully aware of the adversaries all around us in the world in which we live. The
world, the flesh, and the devil are the progressive enemies of the soul and
must be dealt with accordingly.
Then, in the third division of the Psalm (v.10-15) there is a clear
emphasis upon the anointing of the Believer for worship. This brings about
victory over enemies (v.11), flourishing like the palm tree (v.12), in the
courts of God (v.13), even bearing fruit in old age (v.14) followed by praising
God for what He means to us, Drivers: “He
is my Rock and there is no unrighteousness in Him.” (v.15) and can be any Believer's Rock by trusting Him!
When the Rock is
mentioned in the O.T. it points to the Lord Jesus Christ as documented in I
Corinthians 10:4 “And [they] did all
drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that
followed them: and that Rock was Christ.” The Lord Jesus Christ’s promise
to “Never leave or forsake” His own was active all the way back to the time the
Israelites wandered in the wilderness. So, Drivers, let us rely on this promise
of His never-ending presence today!
