Psalm 113-Praise ye the LORD

Truth for Truckers” *May 23, 2014* Psalm 113 “Praise ye the LORD

This Psalm begins and ends with: “Praise ye the LORD” once again giving commands to every Believer to give the LORD the praise due His Name. A total of four commands in this brief Psalm are given to praise the LORD. The writer calls for continual praise to the LORD by using Hebrew parallelism which is the practice of repeating the same idea with parallel statements: “Blessed be the Name of the LORD from this time forth and for evermore. From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD’s Name is to be praised.”(v.3, 4) By using these two verses to emphasize the command to continually praise the LORD, the writer shows that ongoing praise of the LORD is required and in fact it is ongoing in the Throne-room of God as we write, read and speak!

Then, the reason for demanding this continual praise is given: “The LORD is high above all nations, and His glory above the heavens. Who is like unto LORD our God, Who dwells on high. Who humbles Himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth. He raises up the poor out of the dust, and lifts the needy our of the dunghill; That He may set him with princes, even with the princes of His people. He makes the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the LORD.”(v.4-9)

Even though He is high and exalted above the heavens,  is unique for there is none like Him and His dwelling place is on high, He does humble Himself to behold the menial and seemingly unimportant things in heaven and on earth which include the poor, the needy and the woman who is not able to bear children. These three types of people are those who are looked down upon by their peers, as a matter of fact if a woman could not bear children she was thought of as worthless and even cursed of God among the people of her community even though that was not true.

But, God does not look upon the outward appearance He looks upon the heart! The lessons from this brief Psalm are obvious. First of all we should not look upon the poor, the needy and the barren with disdain. Secondly, Drivers, we should be a people of continual praise, praise, praise to the Lord because of His greatness. Praising Him is one of the greatest sins of OMISSION there is in the Christian community. So, we must correct this sin by confessing it for the Lord will forgive and cleanse us by His Blood and then, when the praising begins…it is amazing what praising will do!
