“Truth for Truckers” *June 16, 2014* Psalm 136 “God’s
Mercy Endures Forever”
“O give thanks unto the LORD for His mercy
endures forever.” This verse is the beginning and ending of this powerful Psalm that continues to tell
us of the never-ending mercy of our God. Twenty-six verses proclaim the eternal
mercy of God in this Psalm.
Some Bible teachers say that God’s mercy ends when
He begins judging the earth as recorded in the book of the Revelation of Jesus
Christ chapters 8-19 when His first act of judgment begins. But, that is not
true, for there are Jews and Gentiles saved after the saints are raptured which
requires the eternal mercy of God.
And, the eternal mercy of God will always
be required for even after we receive our glorified spiritual bodies and abide
in heaven there must still be a reason for God to extend His eternal mercy to
His children or else it would not be eternal. But, mercy is an eternal
attribute of our loving heavenly Father for which we must ever be thankful.
Today, as we serve Him here on earth, it
is necessary for us to go to the “Throne
of Grace to obtain mercy and find help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16).
So, even though it may seem to be overdone to repeat the phrase “For His mercy endures forever”
twenty-six times, when we are in need of His mercy it definitely does not seem
overdone!
