“Truth for
Truckers” *May 4, 2014* Psalm 94 “Blessed
is the man whom Thou chasten”
The primary crux of the matter in this Psalm for you and me is to
recognize that when God decides to bring adversity into our lives it is because
He wants to bless us. Listen to what Jesus said: “Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness sake; for
theirs is the Kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye when men shall revile you and
say all manner of evil against you falsely, for My sake. Rejoice, and be
exceeding glad; for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the
prophets which were before you.” (Matthew 5:10-12)
“It is good for me that I have been
afflicted; that I might learn Thy statutes.” (Psalm 119:71)
“My brethren, count it all joy when ye
fall into diverse temptations; knowing this that the trying of your faith works
patience. But, let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and
entire, wanting nothing.” (James 1:2-4)
“If ye be reproached for the name of Christ,
happy are ye. For the spirit of glory and of Christ rests upon you: on their
part He is evil spoken of, but on your part He is glorified.” (I Peter 4:14)
“Blessed is the man whom Thou chasten O
LORD, and teaches him out of Thy Law; That Thou may give him rest from the days
of adversity, until the pit be digged for the wicked.” (Psalm 94:12, 13)
“My son, despise not thou the chastening
of the Lord, nor faint when thou are rebuked of Him: For whom the Lord loves He
chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives…Now no chastening for the
present seems to be joyous, but grievous; nevertheless, afterward it yields the
peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercises thereby.”
(Hebrews
12:5, 11)
This brief survey of the Scripture underscores the blessing of adversity
when we face, troubles, testings, temptations for the name of Christ. When we
experience these things we can know that the Lord is working in our lives and
we will receive blessing and eternal rewards for our right responses. Rejoice,
for you are suffering for the Lord’s sake!
