Psalm 107-Oh that men would praise the LORD

Truth for Truckers” *May 17, 2014* Psalm 107 “Oh that men would praise the Lord

God’s dealings with all classes and kinds of people is the topic of this another lengthy (43) verse Psalm. The writer once again is not listed but he is a man desiring obedience and praise to the LORD as recorded in his introduction (v.1-3). The five types or classes of people are then listed which are given in the following brief summary of the Psalm:

#1 Wilderness Wanderers: In a solitary way…hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them…then they cried…(v.4-9)
God’s Rescue: He delivered them…He led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.

#2 Rebels: Rebelled against the Words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High..then they cried…(v.10-16)
God’s Rescue: He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death and breaks their bands in sunder.

#3 Fools: Because of their transgressions… are afflicted…they draw near unto/gates of death…then they cry (v.17-22)
God’s Rescue: He sent His Word… healed them… delivered them from destructions

#4 Businessmen: They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man and are at their wits end…then they cry… (v.23-32)
God’s Rescue: He makes the storm calm…they be glad because they are quiet…brings them to their desired haven

#5 Princes: He pours contempt upon princes... they wander in the wilderness where there is no way (v.39-43)
God’s Rescue: He sets the poor on high from affliction and makes him families like a flock

Regardless of the troubles these different types of people find themselves, the Lord always delivers them and follows with the declaration of His desire: “Oh that men would praise the LORD for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men.” (v.8, 15, 21, 31)

Praising the Lord once again is the focus for the goodness of God! The application for us, Drivers, is recognizing God’s goodness and giving Him the praise He deserves. Praising also causes us to draw near to Him giving us the ability to communicate and abide in Him! The following verse proves what is said above: “But Thou are holy, O Thou that inhabits the praises of Israel.” (Psalm 22:3) God truly lives in the midst of the praises of His people!
