“Truth for Truckers” *June 4, 2014* Psalm 124 “God
is on our side”
David Israel’s Man of War who
subdued the enemies of Israel and established the nation in peace is the human
author of this brief Song of Degrees: He understood exactly why his manifold
military victories came to pass: “If it
had not been the LORD who was on our side, now may Israel say; If it had not
been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us; Then they had
swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us.” (v.1-3)
David’s proclamation could be said about the
USA during the Revolutionary War against England. There were numerous
miraculous events during the war that could not be explained except by
declaring the victory to the God of heaven. This is also true during Israel’s
war for independence in 1948 when they were surrounded by Arab forces from
nations that were much larger and had greater military might on paper, but our
God does not deal with statistics on paper: “He
is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think”
David’s concluding verse in this short
Psalm says it all: “Our help is in the
name of the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.” (v.8) This truth should bring
us to our knees to worship Him who has given us eternal life!
