Psalm 140-Preserve me from the violent man

Truth for Truckers” *June 20, 2014* Psalm 140 “Preserve me from violent man

The violent man is mentioned on three occasions in this relatively short Psalm of David. The first time is in (v.1-3) “Deliver me, O LORD, for the evil man: preserve me from the violent me; Which imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually are they gathered for war. They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent; adders’ poison is under their lips. Selah.”  The second time is in (v.4) “Keep me, O LORD from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent man; who have purposed to overthrow my goings.” And, the last time is in (v.11) “Let not an evil speaker be established in the earth; evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him.”

In the day in which we live there are violent men throughout our society. Murders, extortion, corruption are prevalent in every area of our country. The cities of Chicago, New York, Los Angeles etc are places where it is not safe to walk whether night or day. Gun sales are at a record high in the USA as we live in a time that is unparalleled for violence. The video games and the movie industry are the biggest promoters of the violent man here in the USA.

From a very young age the great majority of the children are taught the entertainment value of violence. The popular music industry joins Hollywood in promoting the violent man. Even though David wrote of the violent man in this Psalm the violent man was not promoted in that day like it is in our time. Drivers, we must not allow this environment to exist in our homes or in front of our children or grand-children.
