Psalm 115-Not unto us O LORD

Truth for Truckers” *May 25, 2014* Psalm 115 “Not unto us O LORD

The first verse of this Psalm was the life verse for the Wesley Brothers, John and Charles, the founders of the Methodist Church: “Not unto us O LORD, not unto us, but unto Thy name give glory, for Thy mercy, and for Thy truth’s sake.”  This writer of this Psalm is not identified, but David’s Dynamic Duo, mercy and truth, in that order are recorded in the first verse putting his imprint on the Psalm.

David learned that the LORD dealt with man utilizing these two elements of His character for it is by His mercy that we gain access to Him and when we gain access He pours forth His truth to communicate with us. This Dynamic Duo of David’s is found (10) times in the book of Psalms. A very simple outline unfolds the Psalm in understandable terms:

 V. Two Types of People (v.17-18)

The application for us Drivers is found in the last verse: “But we will bless the LORD from this time forth and for evermore. Praise the LORD.” (v.18)
