Psalm 122-The House of the LORD

Truth for Truckers” *June 2, 2014* Psalm 122 “The House of the LORD

“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee” (v.6). This is one of the most repeated prayer requests in Christianity. Praying for the peace of Jerusalem is the same as praying for the Second Coming of Christ for there will be no real lasting peace in the city of Jerusalem until Jesus rules and reigns during the Millennium which is indicated in Revelation 20:4-6. This will occur after He has defeated the Antichrist as outlined in Revelation 19:11-21.

But, the real focus of David in this Psalm is “The house of the LORD”. Notice (v.1) “I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.”  Then he mentions that Jerusalem is the place where the tribes go up…”unto the testimony of Israel, to give thanks unto the name of the LORD.” (v.4). Then in (v.8, 9) David gives his real intent for praying for the peace of Jerusalem: “For my brethren and companions’ sakes, I will now say, Peace be within thee., Because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek thy good.”

At the time this Psalm was written there was no Temple for Solomon built the first Temple after David died. But, “The house of the Lord” was the tabernacle which David built for the Ark of the Covenant where the testimony of Israel resided. This is where the tribes went up which was located on the Temple mount in the midst of Jerusalem.

The application for us, Drivers, is our attitude about going to church where we can assemble with brethren and worship God: “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together as the manner of some is, but exhorting one another; and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:25). We must continue thanking the Lord for the peace and pray for the continued peace here in the USA providing us the opportunity for worship as we gather with the brethren at our local Bible preaching churches.
