“Truth for Truckers” *April 23, 2014* Psalm 83 “Keep not Thou silence, O God”
Asaph pleads with God with three opening
requests: “Keep not Thou silence, O God:
hold not Thy peace, and be not still, O God.” (v.1) These pleas are given
because the enemies of the nation of Israel were actively planning to attack
saying: “Come, and let us cut them off
from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. For
they have consulted together with one consent; they are confederate against
Thee.” (v.4, 5)
These words are familiar threats to the
existence of Israel and those who are making these threats are also very
familiar here in the 21st century because the names and games are
the same as they were when the Psalmist looked back well over 3,200 years ago
during the time when Judges ruled the nation of Israel for the victory of
Deborah and Barak and Gideon, three Judges are referred to in (v.9-12)
Ten enemy nations are mentioned (v.6-8)
and those same ten are still in existence today doing exactly what they were
doing when this Psalm was written, wanting and trying to eliminate the earthly
people of God, the nation of Israel. Today, these nations are all Islamic, and
their Koran says in essence: Convert or Die!” Within these ten nations there is
one from which the Antichrist will rise in the not too distant future.
That nation is called “Asshur” (v.8) or
Assyria which is today located in northern Syria or eastern Turkey. As the time
of the end unfolds we must keep our prophetic eye fixed upon the Scriptures,
Israel, and these ten nations which surround her as we trust in God and expect
Him to “Keep not silence, O God” for He will protect His people from those who
would attempt to eliminate their existence!
