“Truth for
Truckers” *April 12, 2014* Psalm 72 “A Psalm of Messiah the King”
This Psalm describes Solomon’s time as king, but a greater King is
clearly indicated in (v.17): “His name
shall endure forever: His name shall be continued as long as the sun; and men
shall be blessed in Him: all nations shall call Him blessed.” The last
three verses of the Psalm are a brief stanza of praise to the LORD. This also closes
“The prayers of David the son of Jesse.”
(v.20) and ends the Second Book of the 150 Psalms. The Messiah, the Lord Jesus
Christ is the King indicated in (v.17) and He appears numerous times in the
Psalms:
The Lord Jesus
Christ in The Psalms
1. Messiah's Glory (Psalm 118:22; 2:6-9;
24:7-10)
2. Messiah: The Suffering Savior (Psalm 22)
3. Messiah: The Son of God (Psalm 2:7)
4. Messiah: The Son of Man (Psalm 8:4-6)
5. Messiah: The Son of David (Psalm 89:3, 4,
27, 29)
6. Messiah: The Prophet (Psalm 22:22, 25;
40:9, 10)
7. Messiah: The Great High Priest (Psalm
110:4)
8. Messiah: The King (Psalm 2:6-9; 24:7-10;
45:1-8; 69:17)
When Jesus spoke to His disciples after He rose from the dead during His
40 Day Post-Resurrection Ministry He clearly indicated the fact that He was
spoken of in the Psalms: “And He said
unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with
you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the Law of Moses,
and in the Prophets, and in the Psalms concerning Me.”
(Luke
24:44). His
prominence in the O.T. is at the MAX for He is the focal point of all of
Scripture!
