“Truth for Truckers” *April 16, 2014* Psalm 76 “The Future Power of God”
In (v.1-3) God’s power is recognized by
His battling ability. His praise is the focus of (v.4-10) and our payment of
vowing and giving Him presents is revealed. But for our brief study we will
center upon His power first of all in battle: “There brake He the arrows of the bow, the shield, and the sword, and
the battle. Selah.” (v.3) This declaration by the Psalmist Asaph covers all
the known weapons of that day plus God’s invincibility in battle which is also underlined
in the closing verse: “He shall cut off
the spirit of princes: He is terrible to the
kings of the earth.” (v.12)
There is coming a day when God will
display His invincibility through His Son the Lord Jesus Christ when He comes
to bring a close to the world-wide conflict at the end of the Day of the Lord. Then
He will appear on His white horse with the armies of heaven at the Battle of
Armageddon:
“And I saw heaven opened, and behold a
white horse; and He that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in
righteousness He doth judge and make war…And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and
their armies, gathered together to make war against Him that sat on the horse,
and against His army, And the beast was taken, and with him the false
prophet…these both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.
And the remnant were slain with the sword of Him that sat upon the horse”
(Revelation 19:11, 19-21) This
ancient prophecy in Psalm 76:12 will be fully realized in that future day when
the Lord Jesus Christ will be victorious in battle against “The kings of the earth” as His omnipotent power will be
mightily demonstrated!
