Psalm 69-Drawing near to God

Truth for Truckers” *April 9, 2014* Psalm 69 “Drawing near to God”

Psalm 69 is filled with David’s requests to his God. A total of (28) requests, (18) for David’s direct benefit and (10) for God to take vengeance upon his enemies are given in this lengthy Psalm. But, the underlying theme through all of these requests is for God to draw near to David. This is seen in (v.14-18) where he repeatedly calls upon the LORD (7) times culminating with a focus upon drawing near to the LORD: “Hear me O LORD; for Thy loving-kindness is good; turn unto me according to the multitude of Thy tender mercies. And hide not Thy face from Thy servant; for I am in trouble; hear me speedily. Draw nigh unto my soul, and redeem it: deliver me because of my enemies.” (v.16-18)

Try praying these verses to the Lord as the main part of your daily worship of the Lord. Give him your heart as you repeat David’s time proven praying and draw near to God. James tells us: “Draw nigh to God and He will draw nigh to you.” (James 4:8) James gives nine more commandments to the Believer making his list the complete Ten Commandments of the New Testament (James 4:7-11):
1.      Submit yourselves therefore to God
2.      Resist the devil
3.      Draw nigh to God
4.      Cleanse your hands
5.      Purify your hearts
6.      Be afflicted
7.      Mourn
8.      Weep
9.      Humble yourselves
10.  Speak not evil one of another
Drivers, pray through James’ commandments in order to check your heart as you draw near to God!
