“Truth for Truckers” *April 15, 2014* Psalm 75 “God is Judge”
The opening verse of this Psalm rings with
melodious harmony as thanksgiving unto the LORD is the first priority: ‘Unto Thee O LORD do we give thanks: for
that Thy name is near Thy wondrous works declare.’ The reason for this
utterance of thanksgiving is the nearness of the LORD indicated by the works
accomplished through the power of His great name.
But, the theme of the song is found in
(v.2) ‘When I shall receive the congregation
I will judge uprightly.’ ‘God is the Judge’ (v.7) He will bring the world
into righteous judgment during His Day of the Lord wrath which this Psalm looks
forward to as indicated by the references to Day of the Lord passages also
found in the book of the Revelation.
‘For
in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of
mixture; and he pours out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of
the earth shall wring them out, and drink them.’ (v.8) This agrees with Revelation
14:10 ‘The same [beast worshippers] shall
drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into
the cup of His indignation’. And, Revelation 16:19 ‘Great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup
of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath.’
This intense punishment upon ‘All the wicked of the earth’ from the
Lord is yet future, and will take place during Daniel’s Seventieth Week at the
end of the age. (v.10) declares: ‘All the
horns [symbol of strength/authority] also will I cut off; but the horns of the
righteous shall be exalted’ showing the Lord’s righteous judgment once
again as it looks forward to that future day of reckoning.
